We’re happy to present the first of a number of planned releases from the Art Nouveau artist and designer, Maurice Pillard Verneuil. This set of six postcards, printed using high-quality inks on 300gsm Invercoat card, features images depicting birds, insects, plants, mammals and molluscs from his extraordinary book, L’animal dans la décoration, published in 1897.
His designs covered both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco (short for Arts Décoratifs), before periods subsequently transitioning into his much acclaimed geometric patterns. Verneuil also produced numerous poster works in France alongside the well-known artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec and Chéret. Other collaborators included Armand Point, René Juste, Alfons Mucha and Mathurin Méheut.
Verneuil was astounding prolific, and produced hundreds of designs for the page, and also for ceramics, textiles and wallpapers, and pewter ware.
