Eric Ravilious ‘The Lifeboat’
This is one of a series of paintings Eric Ravilious produced at the small coastal port village of Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast. It depicts a lifeboat lined up on its rails and ready for launch. The weather seems calm, even though the waves are carrying whitetops, interestingly reflected in Ravilious’ depiction of the sky above. Other paintings he produced during his stay here are ‘Aldeburgh Bathing Machines’, ‘Late August Beach, Aldeburgh’ and ‘Bathing Machines, Aldeburgh’ (available soon – sign up for our newsletter to keep abreast of releases).
