Eric Ravilious ‘Still Life with Acanthus Leaves’, watercolour, 1938.
Not a well-known Ravilious, yet highly attractive work. The muted pallet, curving lines of the chair, table and enamel jug are balances beautifully by the crumpled Acanthus leaves and straight lines of the book. Here and there the pencil lines show through, lending the image a certain transparent quality. A firm favourite of ours, and one we’re pleased to bring to a wider appreciation.
