Introducing the long awaited second collection of Eric Ravilious wood engravings, comprising ‘Cuckoo’, ‘Hovis Mill’, ‘Sussex Landscape’, ‘Wheatsheaf’, ‘Woodland outside Florence’, and ‘San Gigignano’. ‘Cuckoo’ and ‘Wheatsheaf’ were created for the Cornhill Magazine in 1933 and 1936 respectively, while ‘San Gigignano’ and ‘Woodland outside Florence’ were completed after a visit to Italy in the first half of the 1920s. ‘Sussex Landscape’ is thought to be a stylised depiction of the magnificent (and still in use) tithe barn in Alciston, Sussex, ‘Hovis Mill’ is very definitely a depiction of the mill in Sible Hedingham, Essex.
