Life in Ponds and Streams is a collection of paintings of freshwater bodies, named after my favourite book on the subject.* Waterlilies, the wholly unsurprisingly titled painting by Monet depicts the titular plants in a rather fetching low evening sunlight, while Caillebotte’s The Yerres, Effect of Rain is an enchanting study of the cycle of freshwater that keeps us alive, and Järnefelt’s, Pond Water Crowfoot is a captivating vision of water, plants and light. The Yerres, Effect of Rain, Pond Water Crowfoot, and Water Lilies are also available as single cards.
